It's that time of year, the time when Bugs come out to play! We will be meeting at Vee Dub Parts Unlimited (soon to be Pierside Parts Unlimited, more on that later) on Saturday June 9th and the VW Classic will be on Sunday the 10th. Who out there plans on attending one or both events this year?

I have not been able to make it out to CA the last couple of years, and I am really missing it. Unfortunately I won't be able to come this year either. Is it sad that I am bummed that I won't get to see the Snorkelstang in person?

Our SBO! Club Meet & BBQ is on Sat. from 10:00-2:00, there are also other events happening in the area on Sat.

On Sunday, the VW Classic which is one of if not the largest VW show in the world is held. All types of VW's are welcome to attend and you can enter it in the show at no extra charge to your admission fee which runs about $15.00 per person if I recall correctly. Last year they even had a helicopter powered by a type 1 bug motor. There are usually several types of VW's never sold here in the States on display along with some very high HP drag bugs. There are many commercial VW Parts vendors as well as a big swap meet area with people selling old, new, used and vintage parts. There is food available for purchase and we will be BBQing lunch for club members at our SBO group site which will have at least one EZ-up for shade. Bring some beach type chairs to be sure you have seating. The gates open around 6:30-7:00 and the awards presentation begins around 3:30-4:00. Lots to see, bring a camera.

So what's the deal with the name change of Vee Dub Parts Unlimited?

VWoA copyrighted (volkswagen, VW, aircooled, beetle, bug, super beetle, the image of and or any likeness of the beetle, etc.) and they are currently making any business using any of those names or selling items with the words or liknesses including storefront signage give them to VWoA and never use them again unless they pay VWoA for permission to use them along with a percentage of the sales of said items. You will notice VW Paradise is now Paradise Motorsports, VeeDub Parts Unlimited is now Pierside Parts Unlimited, Aircooled Parts is now Airhead Parts and I'm sure there are others.

I guess it was that time again when the lawyers had to justify being on the payroll. I wish I knew higher ups in the company to let them know they are going about things the wrong way.

What is the fee they have to pay and what is the percentage on sales? There was a bit of a fight over this on The Samba. Last I was told, the "fee" started at $150,000 and went up depending on what you were using or producing.

From what I heard the entry fee is variable but they also want 40% of the profits for everything sold.

All they needed to do is make more quality oem parts and people would pay for them even if marked up.

I'd pay quite a bit for quality OEM parts compared to most of what's out there, I could very quickly save the cost difference in labor. More time driving, less time changing the same part 2-3 times or more until I get one that lasts.

If anyone has a computer and web cam, then I could join in. I think my kids will need to get a bit older before I can join in in person again.

Sorry to anyone inconvenienced by this but there has been a last minute change in venue. Since only three of us are confirmed to be there, we decided to meet at Topline Parts in Placentia. I'll try to have a laptop and webcam there for Bill to "attend" (and James too if he so desires). I will take picts to post for posterity.

I am sad to say that I will once again not be able to make it. However, my wife just told me that we will plan on being there next year, and have the superbug and our daughter who will be 19months by then. So, we'll see what happens!!

Due to the small attendance (4) for the SBO! Meet we decided to go to the Topline Parts gathering. We had a good time and good eats. I brought a bowl of Guacamole but did not make chips. The Guac was gone in short order as everyone was having Guac-Burgers and Guac-Dogs. The VW Classic was a blast as usual. I made another batch of Guac for all (4, a different 4, swapped Scott for Brian) to enjoy. They reconfigured the layout for the VW Classic gathering this year. We had access to the entire parking lot this time so nobody was turned away. It was much more organized and I think it was the largest attendance I have ever seen. We had a great end of the aisle spot this year and hopefully our SBO! Banner will show up in the panoramic picture Hot VW's Magazine takes every year. As usual Brians car got a lot of attention and was photographed hundreds of times from many angles by people from all over the world. A couple of guys from Guadalahara? Mexico stopped by and were able to communicate that they visit out site. They showed us picts of their cars back home and asked to take our pict so Patrick, Sheri and I obliged. I hope they post it here when they get home. I have most of the picts we took and will make them available as soon as I can. Time to rest now as it's been a long 4 days and today started at 4:30 am. I'll post more on the other two days and get the picts up asap.
