i understand that 75 was the first year that the fi was used in the sedan sunroof models and the last year for the US bugs in general. due to the fact that this makes some cars a one year only vehicle. prior to 75 only the rag tops had it (fi). this brings me to question. how many were made that had the fi but was a sunroof sedan. is my bug rare? worthy of resto or just another super beetle. i got a deal on it as the seller thaught it had a bad fuel pump. come to find out there was a hose with a linear crack allowing much air in, a vaacum loss and little fuel incoming. after i fixed that the engine runs like a dream but found the clutch was fried. apparently he'd double and triple clutch to get her moving in order to compensate for the fuel issue till the vaacum leak got so bad it wouldnt start. as of now i'm fixing to put in my new clutch and was told changes were made in 75 but no specific changes were named. what are those changes and am i diving into a money pit? for 800.00 id be willing to let another bugger take the project over. ive got the clutch parts (i think) provided there the right stuff. just dont know what its all worth. i was looking at it as a runner but dont really want to put the resto or show time into it. it would need too much for that unless i find it is more rare than average. ive got last year production US, last year for sedan US first and only year of fi in this model sedan sunroof. tell me what you all think. has black paint but shows but ugly green underneath hood and in chips. glass needs new seals.(got them, need installed) some a-hole dismantled the inside and dash put race seats in and brushed bedliner on inside roof so needless to say the inside aint awful but needs re-worked.i can e-mail pics to serious offers. it is not on ebay or advertised anywhere, so you can say you saw it here first! 1975 fi lagrand

AFAIK, all 75 Supers sold here had sunroofs. i kind of thaught so, ive always been an old school bugger. ive only recently started becoming familiar w/ the supers and especially the fuel injection. its nothing like the older bugs. in fact im not even sure the blocks and heads are the same. ?... was the convertable considered the superbeetle. my point was mearly that even the sunroof was discontinued for sale here.so this may be more rare being first year fi w/sunroof as well as last year of US market, from then on it was convertable only. does this seem to be how you might percieve it? do we have an idea of the gross # of bugs sold here and how many were convertables, lagrands, sedans etc. really the lagrandes w/fi (how many are there and will i need to look for engine parts from other types) thanks for the reply! <1975 fi lagrand> |

'75 was the last year for the Super sedan, and in the U.S. they were called LeGrandes (sp). '75 was the first year, Super or Standard, vert or sedan, to get FI...at least in the U.S. All convertables from '71 through '79 were Supers. '77 (I think) was last year for the Standard sedan in the U.S., '79 for the Super vert.
the '75 Super was the first to get rack and pinion steering. -------------------- R.A.T. 2270 type IV

thanks for the posts guys. im so dissapointed in the abuse of the bug i aquired. so much has been modified that to put it back to original would be costly. so it is what it is and will become a street rat I'm sure. due to this fact i may want to part with the chrome fuelinjected badge on the rear deck lid, any offers out there!
