Hey Everyone!

I have been looking for larger items (hood, fenders, seats, etc,) and would really like to know of anywhere within 3-4 hours of driving from NW Illinois where I can find some of this stuff. I look at eBay or thesamba and all the stuff I need is either in California, East coast area or in the Southern US. I see hoods for $35-40, Fenders for $15 a piece, Seats for $50, and I think YES! Till I discover how much shipping costs for the larger items.

The question I have is: Does ANYONE know of ANY relatively close locations where I can find some stuff? I am in desperate need of seats and the hood can wait, but just wondering. I don't mind driving for a bit, I accept that fact knowing where I live. I have a hood, but it needs quite a bit of work, and was trying to get another. And I have needed seats since I bought the thing.

BTW - almost done with my Super's body work. Hope to get it painted within 4 weeks.

Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

Jerry

Archway is in St Louis but they can be kind of expensive as there's not a lot of competition in the midwest. Roy Rogers auto parts in Springfield MO usually has cars lying about for used parts and they are reasonably priced, cheap for super parts because "it's just a super". They are about 3 hours southwest of St Louis though so depending on where you are in NW Illinois they may be too far away to drive.

Hey Patrick - thanks for the information.

How in the heck do you know about these places? lol.gif I just cannot believe that other than mamotorworks, there isn't something big in Chicagoland. I know the midwest is harsh on VW's. but still... You'd think.

Oh Well.

Thanks again.

Jerry

I went to college at Missouri State University in Springfield MO and I also worked for a while out of IBEW LU 309 (Collinsville IL) right across the river from St Louis. I still have family/inlaws in Springfield, I just moved back out here after college.

Cool! I don't blame you for moving back to LA - I lived in Oceanside for a while and I really REALLY miss the weather. I live near Freeport Illinois, which is in northwest Illinois. St. Louis and Springfield MO are a bit farther than I wanted to drive, but if it comes to it, and it is cheaper than shipping, I'd do it. There is also a guy in Ashland Nebraska near I-80 that has a LOT of stuff up on thesamba all the time. That is 7.5 hours away - again - a bit longer than I want, since that would be a 15 hour round trip of driving and gas money, I wish there was something closer to chicago. But that just doesn't seem to be the case. There is a guy about 25 min away that had a WHOLE lot full of VWs and stuff (he worked on my bug, in fact) - he still works on them, but most of the stuff is not for sale. Or he can't find what I need. He has no interior stuff at all. And he is all out of hoods, unless I want some very rusty ones.

:)

I've had big bulky body parts shipped Greyhound before. They charge by weight and don't hit you as hard for bulk as most shipping companies. Oceanside is beautiful, I lived there briefly as a kid and one of these days plan to surf the area. Right now I rarely get south of Manhattan Beach.
