As I do my semi-regular scans for my next car/project, this one would have dropped me to my knees if I weren't sitting at the time. (Even then, it slumped me enough to make my office chair jetison backwards by a foot.)

The advertiser goes by 73sportsbeetle but clearly it looks like the German-offered version, the gelb-schwarzer-renner, also known as the GSR for short. All I can say is ouch!

Then, there's part two of "makes me wonder." This has to do with the '75 Super Beetles. Every year or so, I stumble across a genuine '75 Super Beetle being advertised or in person that clearly is not a La Grande. The last one I saw in person fitting this description was about three years ago. I still had my '71 at the time, but considered buying it as well. After a lot discussing and investigating into its prior ownerships, I found out it was originally Canadian.

The most recent sort of accepted notion is all '75 Supers that came into the US did so as a La Grande model. Nothing about this link disproves that, but one can't help but wonder if a few non-SE '75s came directly to the states. They are almost always located in one of three west coast states.

I am providing the link rather than showing all of the photos:

What's its story?

The curious part to me isn't the crappy paint job someone slapped on. You can see on the door jambs the probable original color and it is not a La Grande color either. The curious part is like the one I saw in person -- no sunroof. All La Grande's had sunroofs.

Well if it truly is titled as a 75 then I would say someone swapped vin numbers. I always hate it when I see someone paint the outside of a car a different color and not paint the inside. At the very least paint the door jams flat black then it would not look as bad.

Think that's bad, check out this regular seller from another site offering a rare '79 Champagne Edition II convertible on CL. Wow, since the CEIIs were a '78 creature, its rare indeed.

I know this seller, and I have dealt with him successfully. But that's all I will say.

(I do like the odometer reading $65,000. Makes it that much more of a bargain. lol.gif )

Yea, I'm not really into outting people, but since I explained the whole CE deal to him and he still continues to list it as a CEII, I'm rather disappointed. I don't know, perhaps he lost the needed password to edit his listing.
