Well, not that kind of fire... So it seems that #3 isn't really doing it's fair share of the work. When sitting in the garage idling, it's not firing. I did take it around the block and could feel the cyl cutting in and out, so I guess it's time for a compression and leak down check. I swapped the ignition components and the miss stayed with the cylinder. Figures it would be the hardest to get to spark plug that I am gonna have to be putting in and out a bunch of times.

I did the compression check and a leak down test, and all is well in that department. It seems it's the carb that's at fault. There must be a clog in the idle circut, it misses at idle and part throttle, but when you get on it, it goes! Wow that felt good! I really missed that. Now I just need to get the rest of the fun stuff for the car.

I managed to find a bit of time to mess with things again, and I re-adjusted the float level on the left carb, and it's running smoother now, I think I made it too low before. I think the biggest problem with the engine now, is the exhaust. I just bolted the merged header I had on it before. I think the fire must have warped it, or when dragging the remains of the car out of the garage with the tow turck, I must have bent the crap out of it. The pipes just don't fit tight together, and it rattles like crazy. I guess I need to put one of them on the shopping list.

If the slip joint section got cooked it may have increased the dia thru metal expansion.

I just put a small tack weld on that pipe to keep it together for now. That header system is pretty much junk now anyway. It's funny that you really can't tell it was ceramic coated before, it's so rusty looking now. Now that I have that idle curcuit problem worked out, the engine is running decently. I can't complain, it doesn't owe me anything at this point, after what it went through. I am just curious now how long it will last. I had a 1776 complete running engine that was in the fire too. That case was a little damaged, but all the internals seem to be okay. I guess I can think about putting that one back together too, and using it in the Manx.

It's fun driving a sports with more power, but at the same time it's a bit strange, since this is a different car, I have not upgraded anything else on it (yet), and it feels like a different animal. I have been a bit reluctant to go too fast in it, since it's running on stock drums!

Now I have had problems with the right side carb! I had to take it apart and found some foriegn matter in the float bowl clogging up the main jet. At least it's up and running again. Now if that super low kit would just magically appear on my front porch....

Let's all have a moment of silence today, it's the 2 year anniversary of the fire.

Now that the carb problems seem to be worked out, aside from some oil leaks, the engine has been runnung pretty good. I just ordered $500 worth of suspension stuff from Topline yesterday. Now if I can only find the time to work on the car.

I had a moment to get the carbs adjusted a little better yesterday, otherwise it's been running pretty good this past month. I did get the 2 big oil leaks fixed. It still amazes me that it is running at all after what it went through, talk about high head temps!

I bought myself the CB update kit for my Webers for the holidays. I had the chance to install them this past weekend. Slowly but surely the power is getting back to where it was pre-fire. Now I just need to install the MSD!

The car has now been stripped, and is at the body shop to get painted!

So of course in typical body shop fashion, absoutely nothing has been done yet. I feel like I should start a seperate thread for the build of this car, but I don't have anyting to add to it.

I may be living in PA, but I've never heard anyone call anything speedies around here. It's all about the hoagies and grinders! Besides I'm from Jersey anyway. I'm also not getting the car done in the traditional body shop sence, I made a side deal with one of the guys there to do it. This is by the way the body shop of the dealer I work at, so I get to see the car sitting all sad in the back of the lot with no fenders, and trash bags over the doors to keep the rain out. Oh, and the owner is still waiting to get his vanagon painted!

They finally got the Vanagon done. So, there is still no progress to report on the sports. I guess if I'm lucky it will get painted this year.

Time moves quickly! That being said, my right front fender was worked on today. I'm hoping that by september the car will be painted and ready to get put back together.

There's no way the car is gonna be ready in a week. There have of course been set backs, such as the guy doing the work is no longer allowed to use the shop at work for side jobs. Looks like the car is gonna have to be preped and painted in my garage.,.

And that's not happening either. It never ceases to amaze me how hard it is to get body work done. On the up side, the body shop at work is slow, so it is being worked on as an official job. I don't know when it's gonna be done, but I've seen more progress the last 3 days than all year.

Cool, I really can't wait to have the new car looking good, and back together. I am currently rebuilding a 1776 I had that was damaged in the fire. So far so good, the Manx won't be the same car anymore!
